CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

 

**SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT**

The submission deadline has extended to 10 August 2009.


The First IEEE SMC Society Student Branch Chapter Student Paper Contest 2009 will be held in Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 26 September, 2009. The Student Paper Contest 2009 is co-organized by IEEE SMC Society Student Branch Chapters of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Baptist University. The Student Paper Contest aims to provide postgraduate students with an opportunity to discuss their research results with senior researchers in the field, other students and researchers. Finalists will give a presentation on the Paper Contest Day and they can apply up to USD 100 for travel support.

Postgraduate students, especially from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and the Mainland China are encouraged to submit their papers in but not limited to the following SMC related topics:

- Control of Uncertain Systems
- Decision Support Systems
- Intelligent Transportation Systems
- Consumer & Industrial Applications
- Manufacturing Systems & Automation
- System Modeling & Control
- Information Systems for Design & Marketing
- Brain-based Information Communications

- Human-Machine Cooperation & Systems
- Web Intelligence & Interaction
- Interactive & Digital Media

Paper Format

All submissions should be followed the following requirements:
- In English
- Double Line Spacing
- A4 size-paper
- 10-20 pages
- Font Size: 10pt or larger
- An abstract of approximate 100 - 200 words should precede the main text of the paper



Submission Procedure

Please send the following documents to smc.sbc.polyu@gmail.com
1) the paper in PDF format and
2) completed submission form

You will receive a submission confirmation letter with a paper ID of your paper within 3 days.



Eligibility

- All participants must be postgraduate students at a tertiary institute
- All participants must be IEEE SMCS student members or must qualify for IEEE student membership
- The submitted work should reflect work done solely by the student
- Finalists must give a presentation in person at the paper contest held in Hong Kong on 26 September 2009



Review Process

Submissions are evaluated on their originality, scientific merits, structure, and clarity of composition. Each paper will be reviewed by at least TWO reviewers. The finalists are selected based on the merits of submissions.

Finalists must attend and give a presentation in English in the Paper Contest 2009 held on 26 September, 2009, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong. Those receiving the highest scores weighted from the initial review and oral presentation will win the contest.

Travel Grant Support

Finalists outside Hong Kong can apply for a travel subsidy. Upon approval, the applicants can reimburse their travel expenses up to USD100 with the verification of expense receipts. IEEE SMC Student member would have a higher priority for consideration.
