Conference Chairman Message

On behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee, it is my great honour to welcome you all to the 2009 ASID Conference.  The Conference is the third one in this series, first one held in Xiamen, China in 2007 and the second one in Guiyang, China in 2008.  This year, the Conference is organized by the IEEE HK CAS/COM Chapter, the City University of Hong Kong, the Xiamen University and the Guizhou Normal University. The IEEE Communications Society is the technical sponsor and it is also supported by IEEE Asia Pacific Region, R10.

Within only three years of time, the conference is becoming popular and bringing scholars, researchers and engineers together from academia and industry to share their research findings and exchange new ideas and thoughts.  It is our pleasure to hold this conference at the City University of Hong Kong.

There was overwhelming response to the 2009 ASID from 17 Countries world wide, with a total of 235 papers submitted to the Conference.  The final number of papers listed in the Proceedings and to be presented at the two-day Conference is 150.

We are pleased to have Nirwan Ansari, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Newark College of Engineering, New Jersey Institute of Technology and  Chair of IEEE COMSOC Technical Committee on Ad Hoc and Sensor Networks to present the first keynote speech entitled: ^Beware of the Perfect Storm ̄.  The second keynote speech will be presented by Prof. Xiaoyao Xie, Vice-President of the Guizhou Normal University on ^The Research and Application of Guizhou Freeway¨s Bridge Health Monitoring^.

This year is the 125th Anniversary of the IEEE.  We partner with the IEEE HK Section to have a banquet for the Anniversary and the Conference together.  Through its global membership, the work of IEEE Society members, including production of meetings and conferences, publications, educational programs and other activities, has been vital to advancements in technology over the past century.  Members rely on IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services.  We are proud of that the ASID 2009 is one of its 125th anniversary celebrating activities.

Wish you can have a good experience and an enjoyable stay in Hong Kong.
